Highlights
- Separate HDMI audio output: extract the sound of an HDMI source and output it via digital SPDIF/Toslink or analogue 3.5 mm jack
- HDMI 2.0 with 18 Gbit/s: supports video resolutions up to 4K 60Hz as well as HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision
- 3 EDID audio modes: switchable between 2.0, 5.1 and TV to define the maximum supported audio format
- HDMI-CEC pass-through: CEC control signals between source and TV are passed through
The FeinTech AX200 HDMI Audio Extractor enables separate audio output of an HDMI source to a sound system. The audio signal can be output either via the analogue 3.5 mm jack output or the digital SPDIF/Toslink output, while the HDMI audio/video signal is passed through to the TV, monitor or video projector. For example, you can additionally output the audio of a TV box to a hearing aid transmitter or a stereo system while the TV plays the picture and sound.
The AX200 supports HDMI 2.0 with up to 18 Gbit/s and video resolutions up to 4K 60Hz. HDR formats such as HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision are supported, and lower resolutions are of course compatible as well.
3 EDID modes for the desired audio format
With the audio EDID switch you define the maximum audio format the connected source should output:
- 2.0 – Stereo: the source is told that PCM stereo is supported. Sound can be output via the 3.5 mm jack and Toslink simultaneously.
- 5.1 – Dolby Digital / DTS: the source can output PCM stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS. With PCM stereo both jack and Toslink are active; with Dolby Digital or DTS the output is via Toslink only and the analogue output remains silent.
- TV – audio format of the display: the source follows the audio capabilities of the connected TV or display. Higher-quality formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD can then be transmitted via HDMI, but cannot be output via Toslink or the analogue output of the AX200.
Different audio formats cannot be generated at the same time – when Dolby Digital or DTS is transmitted, no sound is available at the analogue jack output. With some sources the desired audio format must also be set manually. Not every player can output multichannel sound as classic Dolby Digital; some streaming devices use only Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1, which cannot be transmitted via Toslink – in this case select PCM Stereo on the source.
Volume is usually controlled directly on the connected sound system; some sources such as Apple TV or Fire TV offer additional volume control options for the audio system.
The AX200 passes HDMI-CEC control signals between HDMI input and output, so compatible TVs and sources can, for example, be switched on and off together or the source can be controlled with the TV remote. The AX200 can be powered from the TV's USB port; for reliable CEC operation (e.g. automatic switching on of the TV by the source) we recommend an external 5 V USB power adapter, which is not included.
